New Heartburn Drug Can Decrease The Severity Of Symptoms

It Will Help The Nearly 30% Of Patients That Perceive No Relief With Treatment Based On Acid-Suppressing Drugs

Heartburn is mostly treated with medication, and the most prescribed ones are PPIs (proton-pump inhibitors). This condition affects one-fifth of the US population. However, for nearly one-third of patients, the drug has little or no effectivity, and continue suffering from heartburn and regurgitation, due to excess stomach acid production. Researchers are working on a new drug that binds stomach bile acids with the objective to decrease the severity of the symptoms. However, heartburn symptoms occur as a reaction to certain foods, such as fried or fatty foods, coffee, or alcohol, among others. In order to prevent them, the new drug will also have a mechanism to gradually release it into the gastrointestinal tract. More info click here.
