Epigastric pain is defined as a pain that occurs above the stomach, in the chest area. The most common is caused by acid reflux, in which the stomach acids return to the esophagus, but there are other causes, such as peptic ulcer disease, which forms in the stomach area, but can radiate to the upper stomach, gastritis, caused by the inflammation of the stomach lining and pancreatitis.
