Pain in the abdomen is usually related to gastric issues. However, there are areas, such as the lower right abdomen, in which a painful sensation can mean serious conditions. It can be linked to issues such as indigestion, excess intestinal gas and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, it can be a symptom of a more serious condition, such as appendicitis, hernia, kidney infection or kidney stones. It can also be related to gender: in the case of women, it can be an ovarian cyst, which is usually harmless, endometriosis – very painful – and pelvic inflammation.
