Learning Which Foods Promote Acid Reflux And Which Avoid It

Among The Foods That Avoid It Are Apple Cider Vinegar, And Fermented And Leafy Vegetables

There are foods and drinks that promote and worsen acid reflux, while others avoid it. Among the ones that promote and worsen it are alcohol which relaxes the muscles, including the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the muscle that controls the valve that prevents the food matter from returning. Also, acidic foods, such as grapefruits, oranges, and lemons, will increase the amount of acid in the stomach. The same effect occurs which excess coffee. Other foods that cause and aggravate acid reflux are fatty and fried foods, which have longer digestion. This increases the risk of the acidic matter to return to the esophagus. Also, spicy foods do not cause acid reflux but worsen it if already present, by irritating the damaged lining of the esophagus. On the other hand, there are foods that fight acid reflux, such as apple cider vinegar, which balances the stomach acid, fermented vegetables, which provides gut bacteria and heals the lining of the stomach. Also, green leafy vegetables reduce the symptoms of acid reflux. Among these are spinach and romaine. Check all the foods that help to avoid acid reflux. More Information click here.
